DON'T LOOK BACK
I could hear the violin playing.
Run down building without doors. On the walls, spray paints were tattooed all over with the words "Danger. No admittance"
The little source of light we had was from a torchlight, held by a man in a black suit. We had to climb about 3 or 4 flights of stairs with darkness clouding us. That man suddenly stopped. We looked at each other with curiosity. He turned off his torch and lead us into this dark and dingy room with a desk. An old wooden desk with a man covered with gray hair, lying his head on and wheezing. His chest plays a constant, building and uneasy sound as we draw near.
When we were about 1 feet close enough to touch him, he looked up and *BANGGG* hit the table with his fist. He asked Shu Yi her name...then me....and Meng Yoe...He looked at us cynically and began looking for our names in a thick, huge, dusty guest book. He then slammed close the book and gave us each a small piece of blue paper with numbers printed on it...A ticket. To what, we didn't know....
"Your journey begins when that door opens. Remember....you are to be VERY careful with your every step as you CANNOT wake the ones who are sleepless"
And he sat up, leaning against his chair and became stationary.
We looked at the door he pointed so anxiously.
Minutes later....The door slowly creaked open.....We cringed. You can hear the rusty trying to hold the door from falling apart. Behind the door was a bride. She walked with poised as though she was walking down the aisle. We slowly trotted behind the bride. There was a wedding table on our left. A table which is hung to the ceiling on one corner. Everything was not in place. There were webs covering almost everything on the table. The candlestick, the plates, the champagne glasses....even the body of a woman that was laid at the corner of the table. Laughter of a crowd fills the air. Happy laughter. Laughter, before the wedding was destroyed I presume...
The bride stopped walking. She turned her head towards the staircase slowly and lift her hand gently, directing us downstairs. As we were walking down, I turned and look at her. She was so pretty. With her big eyes and apple red lips. She looked as though she was trapped in her wedding dress...wanting to escape.
Chop. Chop. Chop.
Even from a distance we could hear it. Pieces of papers scattered on the ground with candles along the way. It lead us to a room. A small room with a man sitting at the desk. Again. Man in black suit. Wooden desk. The man had his back faced on us. He had a paper cutter. He moved his head slowly towards the blade and held the cutter. Chop. Chop. Chop. We got a shock out of our lives thinking for a second there, he was going to capitalize himself.
We scurried out of the room before he turns back and start having ideas beside just cutting papers..
There was a room beside it. A rocking pony was trapped in one of the little room with tiles on it's walls. Melodic musical box songs were playing on the background as we approached a little girl sitting at a corner, with her long hair covering her face. Something was not right. She had obituary papers surrounding her. Is she...dead?
When we came out of the room, there was a young gentleman leading us to a staircase and he pointed upwards. We went up without hesitation but with caution steps. Halfway through the steps, we were shocked by our own faces. It was a mirror. I gave a sigh of relief and continued walking. As we moved closer to the mirror to get to the corridor on the right, an image slowly revealed itself in the mirror. White veil...Apple red lips...White dress...It was the bride. She was trapped in the glass...She stared at us. My heart almost stopped functioning. I pause for a moment to re catch my soul.
The beautiful serenading tune echoes louder and louder through the corridors. Then we came to another one of the many men in black suits. "May I have your ticket please?" he asked. We gave them to him and we were asked to sit down in the 'waiting room'. It's him. At the corner of the room, a young man, dressed in a white collared shirt with black slacks was playing the violin. He played it with such passion...There was a huge screen right beside the room where he was in, showing a clip of a funeral procession...So odd.
While watching the clip, suddenly the man in the black suit spoke up. "Come with me", he says. We almost literally jumped off our chairs. We were so engrossed with the clip that we didn't even notice him coming into the room.
He lead us to a room. It was pitch black. His last words were, "Do not move from where you are. Remember." *Cunning smile*
I was so scared I held Shu Yi's hand so tightly. We waited for almost 5 minutes. Nothing.
Slowly a white figure appeared. It was the bride again! She stood just about a feet away from us. I almost fainted this time. Eerie music were played adding to the atmosphere while she moves backwards with her hands reaching out, as if she was pulled back against her will. She was crying out for help...Before I realise it, she was already gone....
Suddenly the curtains open. There was a fairly built man standing behind the drapes, waiting for us to go to him. This is it.
Room filled with thousands and thousands of candles. Every corner....everywhere. One of the sleepless lights every candle each time someone comes in. He lighted 3 for us. He has a very solemn look. His eyes seem to be staring through the candle and filled with revenge. We walked around and finally came out to the garden. Everyone was there....
Don't Look Back, a production by the DreamThinkSpeak team, sponsored by the British Council. Superb walking theatre.

Once upon a time there was a cow. Yes. A cow. And this cow had a friend. Friend was a sheep. See, both of them were green. In that place they lived in, all things were made green. The mushrooms, the potato land, the trees, the mosquitoes. And suddenly came down a star, CRASHING down to their planet, and ALL things became kalerful! And that star was ME. Rachelli. Ngyahahaha. *Scwoll down pwease*
